Sumlin began his coaching job as a graduate associate before going through a few offensive-oriented positions. His function included training large receivers, quarterbacks, small stops, and unique teams. These responsibilities helped him develop knowledge across different areas of baseball operations. Before being a mind coach, he worked at applications including Washington State, Wyoming, Minnesota, Purdue, Texas A&Michael, and Oklahoma. This development gave him experience in player development and bad planning.
