Setting The Record Straight – Deer Removal in The Landings

You may recall reading in a recent TLA communication, the cost of our Wildlife Contract, which includes deer removal, increased 66 percent from 2024 to 2026. 

Here's why: Managing deer in Georgia isn’t something just anyone can do. We cannot recruit volunteers from the community, nor can we solicit requests for proposals from companies or individuals to cull the deer in The Landings. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Wildlife Resources Division and USDA Wildlife Services are the only authorized agencies permitted to provide these services. State law specifically tasks the DNR with overseeing wildlife resources, as these agencies are uniquely equipped to deliver science-based, legal population management through programs like the Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP).  

The increased cost reflects more service, not inflated pricing. Last year, the Association engaged an additional USDA Representative to support deer removal operations. Furthermore, representatives have enhanced their strategies by using archery in densely populated areas to manage deer populations effectively. In addition, permission from The Landings Golf & Athletic Club now allows our USDA team to remove deer on the golf courses in larger areas away from houses, further increasing efficiency and safety. 

The combined deployment of increased USDA resources, refined culling methods, and expanded access to golf course areas enables your Association to oversee wildlife management responsibly, legally, and in direct response to community input, while maintaining safety as the highest priority.
