2022 Neighbors Helping Neighbors Annual Report

By Lynn Gensamer
NHN Chair

Despite COVID-19, Neighbors Helping Neighbors (NHN) continues to serve Landings residents. The charts below document NHN activity in the two areas of its services, transportation to doctor and other medical appointments, and the loaning of medical equipment. Year-over-year percentage changes are included.

Volunteer Activity

While COVID-19 reduced transportation requests in 2020, demand dramatically declined in both 2021 and 2022.

In 2021, all rides were provided by NHN Call Coordinators. The 2022, a few other volunteers gave rides, but most were still provided by Call Coordinators. The majority of our pre-COVID volunteers have dropped out (many “aged out” or moved away). Caryl Warner, past NHN Chair and very active volunteer also retired from NHN.

Equipment

Interestingly, despite the cancellation of elective surgeries during the height of COVID-19, as well as reduced MD office visits, demand for equipment grew year-over-year, albeit at a significantly lower rate. The number of both requests and items borrowed has exceeded pre-COVID levels… by 34% and 15% respectively. NHN built 5 ramps in 2021 and 2022. Most ramp requests can now be met using one of our aluminum ramps, reducing the need for require carpentry skills or a truck.

Landings residents are extremely appreciative of the services NHN provides.

Thanks to our core of committed Call Coordinators: Sandy Caruso, Ray Ernst, Jeff Gendelman, Marilyn Ratlliff, and Callie Ryan, as well as Steve Drago, chief carpenter and head of the Handymen Crew, NHN was able to complete another successful year.

All of us at NHN are grateful to the entire TLA staff for its support and encouragement.

It is a privilege to able to serve our fellow Landings residents.
