The bill authorizing a vote this November on whether Skidaway Island will become a city has now passed the State Legislature and is awaiting the Governor’s signature.

House Bill 618 (www.legis.ga.gov/legislation/en-US/Display/20172018/HB/618) originally passed the State House on February 8. A slightly modified version then passed the State Senate on February 14. Because of the amendments, the House was required to vote again.

On March 21, 2018, the Georgia State House passed the amended HB 618 by a vote of 162-1. Following the end of the legislative session, the Governor will have 40 days to sign or veto the bill, or it automatically becomes law, giving the residents of Skidaway Island the opportunity to vote on the incorporation of the island. Voting for all Skidaway Island registered voters would be held on November 6, 2018.
