Sumlin began his coaching job as a scholar secretary before moving through a few offensive-oriented positions. His function involved instruction broad devices, quarterbacks, limited stops, and special teams. These responsibilities helped him develop experience across various areas of football operations. Before being a head instructor, he worked at programs including Washington State, Wyoming, Minnesota, Purdue, Texas A&Michael, and Oklahoma. That development offered him experience in player progress and offensive planning.
