Hale Marine Partners with Power Squadron to Pay for Boater Education Courses

Hale Marine, a supplier of Marine parts since 2006, recently gifted the local U.S. Power Squadron $5,000 to underwrite area residents receiving free recreational boater education.

The Tybee Light Sail and Power Squadron (TLSPS) - America's Boating Club, a local fixture since 1957, offers the gold standard of educational courses for boaters. Over the past 10 years, TLSPS has taught 350 students basic boating in America's Boating Course; taught 250 students advanced courses such as Seamanship, Piloting, Marine Electrical Systems, and Weather; and taught 401 students seminars such as GPS, Tides, and Currents, Chart Reading. and Partner in Command, a course for the spouse or friend accompanying the boat's pilot. The average course costs range from $25 to $95.

With Savannah's range of water traffic, from 190,000-ton container ships to kayakers and every-sized vessel in between, knowledge of boating's 'rules of the road' are essential for a safe outing.

The gift from Hale Marine can be used by new or experienced boaters. The only stipulation is that the person taking the course has to successfully complete it.
