Landlovers Awards $5000 Grant to CCA Skidaway for Youth Outreach Programs

By Doug Painter

The Landings Landlovers recently awarded a $5000 grant to the Skidaway Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) in support of the chapter’s wide ranging youth programs and activities.

“We are pleased and honored for the continuing support from the Landlovers and this generous grant that will enable us to build on our outdoor education and fun fishing activities for youngsters both on and off the island,” said CCA Skidaway Chapter President Dave Devore.

Throughout the year, a special focus of the Skidaway CCA Chapter is to bring a taste of the outdoors to area youngsters through our annual Kid’s Fishing Derby (which has been rescheduled for October), our newly developed Cast Away Kids Club, which combines hands-on nature classes combined with family fishing, and our outreach to local youth at the Oglethorpe Charter School, Bethesda Academy, and the Safe Shelter Camp Rock program.

Activities take place at our designated Kids’ Lagoon adjacent to Oakridge Fire House at the corner of Westcross and Log Landing roads. The lagoon is always open to youngsters and their families and invited guests.

The Landings Landlovers was established in 1974 with the purpose of promoting fellowship through social and cultural activities on island and providing philanthropic support for non-profit and service organizations that provide cultural and educational programs especially in respect to health, safety and our island’s extraordinary natural environment.
