The Secret Underground Water System of The Landings is the topic of the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) of Skidaway’s meeting and seminar on Monday, April 12, beginning at 4 p.m. via Zoom. The Landings Association’s Public Works Director Sean Burgess will be the speaker. Zoom meetings are similar to previous meetings in format, including a monthly raffle for valuable prizes. Advance registration is required. Registration is available through the CCA of Skidaway website (www.ccaskidaway.org). On the homepage, click on “Click Here to Register”. A link to the Zoom feed will be sent to you prior to the meeting. Burgess will talk about The Landings’ underground water and lagoon systems (like the one shown at left) and show how all of the components tie together to create the great Landings environment. He also will cover the relationship between the Association and the Skidaway CCA and how the entities work together to make the lagoons a great community amenity. He then will highlight the cooperative efforts of the Lagoon Committee and the Public Works Department in monitoring salinity, seining, electro fishing, stocking, and managing the underwater structures to enhance the local fishing environment. Burgess joined the team in 2004. His long tenure and experience at The Landings led to his promotion from Environmental Manager to Public Works Director in July of 2019. His primary duties include contract and project management, administration, and the strategic planning of the department, including Environmental, Construction, Building and Grounds, and Fleet. A 2002 graduate of Lakeland College (Sheboygan, Wisconsin), he holds a BA degree in Biology. Before joining the Association, Burgess was a Fishery Technician and then an Aquatic Biologist, both in the state of Wisconsin. Each meeting attendee will receive one free raffle ticket, compliments of CCA, as a thank you to all who supported the organization during the challenges of 2020. Additional tickets can be purchased in quantities of one ($5), three ($10), or seven ($20) through the website (www.ccaskidaway.org). The proceeds will go to support CCA programs in the coming year. The April raffle will give two attendees the opportunity for an excursion led by Captain Matt Starling to fish for Red Bull. The seat pair is valued at $375. Also, in April, CCA of Skidaway will host a Saltwater Fishing Clinic on Saturday, April 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. During the clinic, attendees will learn about equipment, technique, locations, and target species, and will enjoy time to put everything into practice. The clinic is free to CCA members. Non-members will be charged $10, which can be applied to the $35 CCA annual membership fee. Please reserve a spot by April 12 via email (LandingsFishing@gmail.com). NOTE: A valid Georgia Fishing license and the free SIP (Saltwater Information Program) permit are required for anglers over the age of 16. Both are available online at www.gooutdoorsgeorgia.com.
