In preparation for Hurricane Dorian, and as a precaution against possible landfall in Georgia, Governor Kemp has issued a mandatory evacuation order for Chatham County zone A and B, beginning at noon on Monday September 2.

Skidaway Island is in Zone A, along with the other islands near Savannah and all areas East of the Truman Parkway.

To facilitate evacuation of the area, westbound contraflow on Interstate 16 will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

The latest storm track projected by the National Hurricane Center has Dorian remaining offshore, but Savannah remains in the cone of uncertainty. The forecast puts the storm close to Savannah during the day on Wednesday, when it is predicted to have weakened to a Category 2 hurricane.
