Members Reminded to Remain Vigilant Due to Recent Thefts from Vehicles
Landings Security documented seven thefts from vehicles that occurred recently. A suspect has been identified as a juvenile Landings resident, and Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) currently is investigating.
Entering vehicles to steal is a crime of opportunity. This act officially is known by the police as larceny, and it often can be prevented.
Following are a few tips to help you avoid becoming a victim of larceny.
- When exiting your vehicle, firmly close all doors and ensure they are locked.
- Remove all items of value from the vehicle when you exit. Close any open compartments and roll up the windows.
- Be a responsible gun owner and always secure your firearm.
- Avoid placing items inside the car where they can be seen, and store them in the trunk, out of sight.
- If you see something, say something. Call 911 for emergencies or criminal activity, and as appropriate, notify either The Landings Golf & Athletic Club’s (TLGAC) Security team (912-598-2500) or TLA Security (912-598-1982, Option 3). TLGAC Security manages the security of all Club facilities and golf courses.
Remember, breaking into a vehicle takes only seconds, and experienced thieves avoid touching the handles and other surfaces of a vehicle and grab only the items they want. However, making a practice to follow the tips above could prevent you from becoming a victim of larceny.
