General Manager's Update
Dear Landings Association Members,
Following months of review, including extensive community input, updates to The Landings Association’s Rules and Regulations now have been completed and approved by the Board of Directors. Click here to read highlights of the changes. This is the first extensive update to the Rules in quite some time, and we could not have completed this without your input.
Other Association governing documents have been undergoing review this year, as part of the Association’s Strategic Plan. The Governance Committee has been working on the Board Policy Manual as well. The Architectural Review Committee has spent months reviewing and revising the Architectural Guidelines to make them not only match more closely current trends and realities, but also to make them easier for the end user to understand and follow. Once the work on the Guidelines has been completed, they will be distributed for community comment, just like the Rules and Regulations.
Soon, you will receive the first Landings Association Community Survey in four years. We had to put these on pause during the COVID-19 pandemic, as we could not safely gather focus groups to help guide survey questions. Now, with the help of a survey firm, we are getting back in front of the community so we can understand better the needs and wants of our members, and how well we are achieving them. We have significantly shortened the survey, and it should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. I urge all to invest that small amount of time so that we can provide for the good of the whole.
We also need owners to participate in the ongoing Board of Directors election. You have until October 23 to cast your vote. The online vote is tied to one of your household’s email addresses, as each house/lot is allowed one vote. We’ll send reminders to those who haven’t voted.
Budget season is wrapping up, and we can keep our current service levels as well as maintain at least 30% funded in our Capital Reserves. When this work is complete, we will post our Budget Book online so that you can read all the details. At that time, if you have any questions, just reach out to us so we can provide answers and clarifications.
As we welcome fall and the increased outdoor activity it brings, I encourage everyone to do your due diligence to keep you and your neighbors safe. As you are walking, cycling, or jogging in the community, stay alert and be courteous of others. That means moving over to share the community paths and trails, and slowing down to ensure you don’t injure yourself or someone else, as you are rushing off to a tee time, to meet friends at Landings Community Park, or to spend an afternoon at one of our beautiful Marinas.
Our resident Communications Committee currently is working on a campaign to encourage civility in our community and beyond, an important topic in this day and time where patience is in short supply and people are so busy. We sometimes forget to be courteous and kind to others. In the coming months, you may be approached to weigh in on what civility means to you, if you believe it is important, and perhaps share a story regarding the civility you have experienced while living in The Landings. Please share your thoughts. Who knows? Our community might just ignite a much-needed wave of courtesy that spreads far beyond our gates into the rest of the world. Wouldn’t that be awesome?
Finally, for our resident ghouls and goblins who are looking forward to a spooktacular Halloween, I wish you a great time. Trick-or-Treating in The Landings is October 31 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. You can read some safety tips in the article on page 11 of this edition of The Landings Journal.
As always, if I can be of any assistance, please let me know (karls@landings.org).
