Speaker Laura C. Martin has been writing about wildflowers for much of her life. Three of her 25 previously published books have been about wildflowers, including Wildflower Folklore, The Wildflower Meadow Book, and Southern Wildflowers. In addition, she wrote a gardening column focusing on growing native plants for nine years for the Atlanta Journal and Constitution. Her bestselling book, Wildflower Folklore, sold more than 85,000 copies, while her Nature’s Art Box has sold more than 65,000 copies.
During her long career as an author, Martin has been a guest speaker for organizations such as the American Herb Society, Garden Clubs of America and National Federated Garden Clubs, and the American Horticultural Society. She has lectured throughout the country for many years.
While promoting her books over the years, she has appeared on numerous TV and radio shows. In 2001, Martin earned a Certificate of Botanical Art and Illustration from the New York Botanical Garden, allowing her to illustrate her books and greatly enhancing her career.
Martin’s previous books have earned numerous awards, including The Garden Writers’ of America award of excellence (A History of Southern Gardens), The Parents’ Choice Award (Nature’s Art Box), the Silver Nautilus award (The Green Market Baking Book), and the Alabama Conservancy award (Wildflower Folklore).
In A Naturalist’s Guide to the Wildflowers, Martin draws on a variety of skills and experience. She uses her scientific background as a botanist and her artistic skills and her experiences from a long and illustrious career as a highly acclaimed author to offer a unique, accurate, and beautiful book.
