Security Update 

On Friday, July 9, Security personnel and members of the Security Committee conducted our first Courtesy Safety Inspection (CSI) event near the Franklin Creek campus. For the most part, efforts were well received. However, it seems as though a few residents missed my previous articles on civility. One individual wanted to argue the finer points of Georgia law and his interpretation that a 15-year-old can drive a golf cart with only a learner’s permit. Aside from those few issues, the event was a success, with 32 golf carts inspected, three registrations transferred to new owners, and one warning issued for unlicensed driving. Be on the lookout for more CSI events in the future as we continue our efforts to increase awareness, safety, and compliance. 

On a more somber note, we had several golf cart accidents which could have been avoided in June and July. One distressing incident, in particular, resulted in serious injuries to cart occupants when a 12-year-old was allowed to drive the golf cart. The inexperienced driver appeared to turn too quickly, and the cart turned over. Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) cited the adult family member for allowing a minor to drive. 

We have received several complaints about drivers failing to stop at stop signs. One accident in July appeared to have been caused by a driver failing to stop and resulted in serious injuries. We will be dedicating resources to address this issue and asking CCPD officers to assist and issue state traffic tickets. Please obey all traffic laws, including stop signs and speed limits in our community. 

Speaking of CCPD, sadly, we must say farewell to our Community Liaison Officer, Danielle Pimental. She has accepted another career path outside of law enforcement, and we wish her the best of luck in her new endeavors. 

The 4th of July celebration in Deer Creek appeared to be a huge success, and we appreciated everyone who participated in the celebration of this great country. Thank you to everyone who parked appropriately and remained patient while literally thousands of residents tried to leave at the same time. My hat is off to my staff and the CCPD officers who worked the event. You have my appreciation and a very heartfelt thank you! 

Thankfully, Elsa was downgraded to a tropical depression and shifted westward prior to approaching our area. This storm was an excellent opportunity to ensure YOU have YOUR plan in place in the event of a hurricane.
