In preparation for Hurricane Dorian, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) has installed a real-time rapid-deployment stream and atmospheric monitor at the Diamond Causeway bridge over the Skidaway River.
According to Rick Cunningham, who initially shared the news in The Skidaway Times Facebook Group, the sensors “will collect water level, air temperature, air pressure, wind speed, wind direction, precipitation, and relative humidity every 15 minutes.”
The weather data is transmitted via satellite to the USGS, who makes it available on their website.
The Skidaway Times is currently featuring some of the data on the homepage, to help evacuees know more about the current conditions on the island. The charts are also available on this page, and visitors can see the full data set on the USGS website.
