Marinas Update

Landings Harbor and Delegal Creek Marina continue to bustle with activity. With the high occupancy rates at both Marinas this year, please continue to be considerate of other boaters. The most important rule-of-thumb is a boat leaving Landings Harbor basin always has the right-of-way. At Delegal, please remember to pass the Marina at idle speed and make sure not to create a wake. As you know, it has been an extremely sweltering summer, and September can be a hot month. Remember to drink plenty of water and put on sunscreen. We have an ample supply of both items in the Landings Harbor Store!

The Landings Harbor Annual Fishing Tournament will be held Saturday, September 28 and will include something for everyone. Like last year, this year’s event will include crabbing. Prizes will be awarded for the highest aggregate weight (any three fish), the largest Spanish Mackerel (adult and youth), the largest crab weight (single crab), and highest aggregate weight (10 crabs). This will be a family-fun tournament. I encourage everyone to sign up and take advantage of this outdoor activity on the water. Registration and a Captains’ Meeting for the event will take place on Friday, September 27.

The Marinas continue to offer regular Sunset Cruises on the Wilmington River. Check our calendar (www.landings.org/calendar) for available trips.

It’s that time of year to start thinking about hurricane preparedness. The Marinas’ Hurricane Preparedness Plan provides a timeline for actions to be taken by staff and boat owners if a hurricane is forecasted to make landfall and counts back from there. The key message is to prepare early to enable everyone (boat owners and staff) to complete their preparations and evacuate in a timely fashion.
