On the Security Scene

Theft
On Thursday, December 19, 2024, Security responded to a residence on Sound View Lane for a report of a theft. The resident advised that she noticed some jewelry missing from a case in her upstairs bathroom on December 15, 2024, and notified Chatham County Police Department (CCPD), but she also wanted to make Security aware of the incident. There were no signs of forced entry. CCPD is investigating.
Accidents
On Thursday, December 26, 2024, Security, Chatham County Fire Department (CCFD), and CCPD responded to a single vehicle accident at the intersection of Yam Gandy Road and Brandenberry Road. Upon arrival, the Security Officer observed a vehicle on its side against a tree, and several people using stepstools to assist the driver out of the driver’s side door. The vehicle was stabilized by CCFD, and two passengers were extricated and transported to a local hospital for additional treatment. During their investigation, CCPD determined that the vehicle struck the curb and entered the grass alongside the roadway on Yam Gandy Road. The vehicle then continued traveling forward, jumping the curb at the intersection of Yam Gandy Road and Brandenberry Road, striking the golf cart path stop sign before coming to rest on the passenger side up against a tree.
Security responded to Tidewater Way behind the Main Gate for a vehicle accident without injuries on Tuesday, December 31, 2024. The driver of the first vehicle stated that he was making a right turn to get onto Tidewater Way from Landings Way North, and believing that the lane merged into one lane, he attempted to get into the left lane and struck the second vehicle. Both vehicles sustained minor damage. Both parties exchanged information and agreed that the situation would be handled through the first driver’s insurance.
On Wednesday, January 1, 2025, a guest of a resident was admitted into the Landings and was later involved in a serious single vehicle crash on Tidewater Way behind the Main Gate. Chatham Emergency Services (CES), Chatham County Fire Department (CCFD), CCPD, and Security responded. The investigation was turned over to CCPD, and four citations were issued. Parents of the juveniles involved in the crash responded to the scene. Juveniles with injuries were transported via privately-owned vehicles to a local hospital for further evaluation at the parent’s discretion.
Vandalism
On Friday, January 3, 2025, Security responded to a residence on Mainsail Crossing for a report of vandalism. The residence advised that she had been out of town from November 7 until January 1, and upon her return, noticed that the gate latch leading to the area that stores her trashcans was damaged. It is unknown who caused the damage or when it was done.
Suspicious Incidents
On Friday, January 3, 2025, a resident contacted Security and CCPD to report a suspicious incident. The caller advised that she was walking her dog and noticed a suspicious vehicle parked on Springfield Place. An individual exited the vehicle and began making whistling noises at her. Extra patrols were performed in the area, and no suspicious individuals or activity was found. There were no further calls of a similar nature.
On Monday, January 6, 2025, Security responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at a residence on Middleton Road. The caller advised that she was not home at the time, and no one should be at the residence. Upon Security’s arrival, two male subjects which were guests for another resident exited the vehicle and stated they were waiting for the caller. Security advised the two men that no one should be at the residence at that time, and they left without incident.
Disturbing the Peace
On Sunday, January 5, 2025, Security responded to Riverwatch Lane for a noise complaint at approximately 1:40 a.m. Upon arrival, Officers noted the noise was coming from some juveniles playing loud music in South Harbor. One of the Officers made verbal contact with the teens through the fence and advised them of the noise ordinance. The teens acknowledged and advised they would be leaving the area soon. No further complaints were received.
Traffic Safety
The Guardian Pro camera/LIDAR system remained on Bartram Road at Wickersham Drive. From January 1 to January 7, there were 27 violations.
TLA Rules and Regulations Enforcement (sans Guardian Pro)
- One violation was issued to a resident for overnight parking in the street.
- Two violations were issued to residents for early placement of bulk trash.
