2024 State of the Trees for Chatham County Meeting
Public Works Director Sean Burgess and Natural Resources Manager Greg Freeman attended the 2024 State of the Trees for Chatham County meeting at Georgia Tech Savannah. The meeting discussed local urban forestry policy, regional tree loss trends, and proposed ordinance updates. The meeting also included a review of the satellite canopy change data from 2010 to 2019.
The Savannah Tree Foundation (STF) is a Chatham County tree advocacy organization that works to address tree inequality. The STF has been a leader in Chatham County tree advocacy for almost three decades. Chatham County has been impacted by rapid development and severe storms, which have destroyed the tree canopy and negatively impacted the region's climate change resilience. In November 2024, the STF intends to plant 500 trees across Chatham County, on both public and private property to help rebuild the tree canopy in the community.Â
Gatehouse Turf Pigmentation Â
BrightView, in conjunction with its contractors, completed the turf pigmentation at the gatehouses this week. Turf pigmentation will last for several months and requires no over-seeding or watering while the turf is dormant. In addition to being environmentally friendly, the dye acts as an insulator for the soil, keeping it warmer, which allows for a quicker regrowth in the spring.Â
