On the Security Scene
Theft
On Wednesday, November 13, Security received a phone call from a resident on Modena Road, who reported that his package from USPS was stolen from his mailbox. He stated that he found his mailbox door open with nothing in the mailbox, which was unusual. Additionally, he had received a notification that the package was delivered. There were no other reports of missing mail or packages reported. The complainant did not want to make a report with Chatham County Police Department (CCPD).
On Sunday, November 17, Security and CCPD responded to Delegal Creek Marina for a report of theft. A non-resident juvenile was caught stealing crabs from several crab traps. The juvenile was charged with theft by taking. The Landings Association also requested a trespass ban for the individual. The juvenile was released to his mother, and they left the property.
Security responded to a residence on Henry Clay Court for a report of theft on Monday, November 18. The resident advised that she noticed her wheelchair ramp was missing while taking out her trash the previous evening. It is unknown when the ramp was stolen or who may have taken it, as the resident could not remember when she had last seen it. The complainant did not make a report with CCPD.
Vehicle Accident
On Wednesday, November 13, Security and CCPD responded to a vehicle versus golf cart accident at the intersection of Yam Gandy Road and Landings Way South. The driver of the vehicle explained that she was turning onto Yam Gandy Road, and upon crossing through the entrance of the road, she heard a crash. After stopping her vehicle, she noticed that a golf cart had hit the back of it. The driver of the golf cart stated she was turning onto Yam Gandy Road and did not notice the vehicle. Both drivers were cited for failure to yield. The golf cart driver also was cited for failure to show proof of golf cart insurance. Neither party was injured, and both the vehicle and golf cart sustained minor damages.
Suspicious Incident
Security responded to a residence on Whitetail Lane for a report of a suspicious incident at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 19. The resident advised that he had seen someone on his property via his video surveillance system. Upon arrival, Officers found a vehicle running with no one inside it. A premise check was conducted and found lights on in the residence. The resident requested that CCPD be contacted, as he had seen someone taking things from the home. Prior to CCPD’s arrival, the resident’s wife arrived on scene and explained that the vehicle belonged to their plumber. At that time, the plumber exited the residence and explained that his vehicle’s battery had died requiring a jump. Once someone had jumped his vehicle, he decided to leave it on while he packed up his tools to leave. Security explained the misunderstanding when CCPD arrived on scene.
