First Responders Update

By Kelly Gordon - sifrpresident@gmail.com
President, First Responders

There still seems to be a lot of confusion about what number to call for emergencies in The Landings. Please call 911 for ALL police, fire, and medical emergencies. It has been a huge shift for all of us to get used to this change, but it imperative that you use the appropriate number moving forward.

We still are actively looking for people who want to be a part of our team. If you think you might be interested in becoming a Skidaway Island First Responder and want to learn more about our group, please reach out to Ann Van Winkle (asvanwinkle26@gmail.com or 912-247-7361) for more details.

As we approach the holidays, and as I call it “party season,” please be sure to let all your guests know we have white lights on our cars for EMS calls, and if they see us while they’re visiting the island, please yield to us to help us arrive as quickly as we can to all emergencies on the island.

That leads me to my next party topic. It is common for drinking to occur at social gatherings. If you or a guest have been consuming alcohol, please do not get behind the wheel of a golf cart or motor vehicle. There are many ways to get home safely, and driving yourself isn’t one of them.

Stop signs: They are not a suggestion. When you are leaving Midpoint, please do not carelessly coast through, as if there isn’t a big red sign telling you to stop. It is the same individuals daily, who habitually avoid the stop sign. I see it more than I’d like to say out loud. If you have kids driving to and from school, remind them that the red sign is a reminder to stop and look both ways.

In closing, if you are experiencing a medical emergency, please don’t hesitate to call 911 for help. Don’t forget to have all your pertinent information available for us when we arrive. Any medical history is helpful, and having a list of medications is always a good idea, too.

Thank you for your continued support.
