Hurricane Milton Update (October 8 @ 6:45 p.m.)

Tue, 10/08/2024

All eyes remain on Hurricane Milton and its path. At its 5:30 p.m. Briefing, Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) shared that Hurricane Milton has been re-upgraded to a Category 5 Hurricane and is moving east-northeast at 9 MPH.

The storm track has shifted further south, which is good news for our area, according to CEMA. However, we still can expect to see .5 to 1 inch of rain. There is a potential for coastal flooding, with two-to-four feet of storm surge. CEMA doesn’t expect our area to experience sustained tropical storm-force winds, but it is likely we will experience some gusts. Chatham County is under a Storm Surge Watch and a Tropical Storm Watch.

Although not as much rain is forecasted for this event as with Hurricane Debby back in August, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church (3 West Ridge Road) again has offered Landings residents the option of parking vehicles in the church’s back parking lot. All vehicles must be retrieved before midnight on Saturday (October 12). This area is high ground, but St. Peter's Episcopal Church can't assume liability for property damage. For more information, please email Senior Warden Peter Kastner (petestpeters@icloud.com).
