Hurricane Helene Cleanup Update (October 7 @ 4:05 p.m.)

Hurricane Helene may be gone but her impacts, including those physical and financial, remain in many areas, including The Landings. 

To date, your Association’s post-storm financial impact for debris removal from common property is $86,822.50. This includes the amount paid to R&D for storm debris cleanup through October 3. This number does not include the cost of the additional Brightview workers helping to restore the community. Last week,18 additional Brightview employees worked in The Landings, and this week, an extra 10 are onsite helping with debris removal on common property. It is important to note that The Landings Association’s Public Works Team and its contracted crews cannot remove yard debris from private property. The focus of these teams is common property only. 

In other cleanup news, Chatham County Public Works crews were in the community last Tuesday (October 1) picking up small piles of debris and those packaged in barrels and lawn bags. County Crews will return tomorrow (October 8) to continue yard debris collection in The Landings. However, Bulk Trash collection, which is the second Friday of the month in The Landings (this Friday) may be postponed until debris cleanup is completed. 

Last week, Chatham County shared with the Association that they had brought in a debris management contractor to help with debris collection and were working to narrow down a Debris Management Site (DMS), where the debris would be dumped and sorted. According to the County, once the DMS is secured, it will begin sending Grapple Trucks into the various zones throughout Chatham County to begin collecting larger piles of debris. Your Association has reached out to the County to learn more about its Bulk Trash and storm debris schedules.

Residents are reminded not to place yard debris on common property, storm drain caps, roadways, in the gutter valleys along the roadways, near mailboxes, fire hydrants, and street signs, or under low-hanging branches. Additionally, do not allow your lawn contractors or tree companies to place items on the curb or common property. Lawn contractors, tree companies, and landscapers should take the debris with them.  

If you have damaged trees due to Hurricane Helene, you do not need TLA approval to have them removed. Vendors are allowed in the Landings on Sundays to assist with cleanup and restoration efforts until further notice. Please do your due diligence when choosing a tree company and be sure to pre-authorize your vendor's entry. 

Finally, the dumpster in the back parking lot of The Landings Association (600 Landings Way) for spoiled food collection will be removed tomorrow morning (Tuesday, October 8). Please do not use this dumpster for any other type of debris.
