CCA Skidaway January 13 Seminar
CCA Skidaway’s seminar on Monday, January 13 at 7 p.m. will feature the renowned Fish Whisperers, Bruce White (shown at left) and Phil Hunter (shown at right). This dynamic duo is well-known for their expertise fishing the Landings' lagoons. Join us at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church (3 West Ridge Road) to learn about their gentle approach and deep understanding of fishing our lagoons and why they have earned the affectionate title of the "Fish Whisperers."
In 2023, Bruce and his wife, Mary made the significant move from New Orleans to this island, and it was one of the best decisions ever made. From the moment he stepped onto the island, he was captivated by the natural beauty and the promise of adventure that awaited him in the form of fishing the 151 lagoons scattered across The Landings. These lagoons have proven to be a true fishing paradise, offering a diverse and abundant aquatic life that caters to both freshwater and saltwater fishing enthusiasts. Bruce immediately set a goal to catching at least one fish from every lagoon, he has caught fish from 149 of them so far.
Phil Hunter has been a Landing's resident for five years. He goes fishing 350 days a year demonstrating his unwavering passion for the sport. This past year he has caught an average of 250 fish a month showcasing his exceptional skill and persistence. Phil prefers using a plastic worm for bait, a testament to his strategic approach and expertise in angling.
Bruce and Phil will delve into several fascinating areas during the seminar. Their combined expertise ensures a comprehensive exploration of the following subjects: fish species from both freshwater and saltwater providing attendees with a deeper understanding of the diversity of fish and their unique behaviors; the best lagoons for catching big fish, both in freshwater and saltwater for optimal fishing location; the best lures for different fish species and conditions. Bruce and Phil will guide you through their favorite techniques and how to choose the right equipment for successful fishing. You will gain knowledge about the essential fishing gear that every angler should have. From rods and reels to accessories, Bruce and Phil will cover the tools necessary to enhance your fishing experience. Most important is understanding conservation in fishing. They will discuss how anglers can support sustainable practices and contribute to the preservation of marine ecosystems.
This seminar is designed to be both informative and practical, providing attendees with valuable knowledge that can be applied in real-world fishing and conservation efforts. Don't miss the opportunity to learn from Bruce and Phil  who bring a wealth of experience and passion to the field of fishing.
The CCA’s raffle prize for this month is a fishing rod and reel a $175 value.
