Post Hurricane Helene Cleanup Update - October 2, 2024
Cleanup in The Landings continues after Hurricane Helene. The Landings Association has secured two additional Grapple Trucks to pick up the debris piles on the Association and Landings Golf & Athletic Club properties. Association and Club Public Works teams are working closely on the cleanup response to ensure our community is restored to normal as quickly as possible.
Association amenities fared relatively well during Hurricane Helene. However, there was some damage to Landings Harbor Marina’s Ship Store roof, the fish cleaning shack, some electrical cabling, and a massive influx of marsh wrack that crews now are removing.
In other cleanup news, Chatham County Public Works crews were in the community yesterday (Tuesday, October 1) picking up yard debris on The Landings’ regularly scheduled collection day. At that time, crews were picking up small piles of debris and those packaged in barrels and lawn bags.
Chatham County has informed the Association they have brought in a debris management contractor to help with debris collection. Additionally, the County is working to narrow down a Debris Management Site (DMS), where the debris will be dumped and sorted. Each type of debris is kept separate from one another because the end destination for each category of debris is different.
Once the DMS is secured, the County will begin sending Grapple Trucks into the various zones throughout Chatham County to begin collecting larger piles of debris. Chatham County hopes to start deploying trucks as early as next week and will notify the Association in advance of the trucks arriving in The Landings.
