Hurricane Milton Update (October 7 @12:40 p.m.)
Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) continues to monitor Hurricane Milton and its potential impacts on our area.
According to CEMA, Hurricane Milton currently is an extremely powerful Category 5 Hurricane with sustained winds near 160mph, with higher gusts. Hurricane Milton is forecast to move eastward before taking a turn to the north-northeast. Currently, the storm is forecast to make landfall in the Tampa Bay area as a Category 3 Hurricane. It is important to note that small shifts in this track can influence our expected impacts.
CEMA officials report that Chatham County’s most significant threat with this storm on the current track is coastal flooding. We could see 1.5-2” of rain in our area later this week, likely Wednesday night (October 9) into Thursday (October 10), due to Hurricane Milton.
