The dictionary meaning of courtesy, on a high level, is the showing of politeness in a person’s attitude and behavior toward others. Courtesy also can be considered good manners, civility, respect or respectfulness, chivalry, graciousness, kindness, consideration, thoughtfulness, or diplomacy, to name just a few.

So, what is the best way to show courtesy? My mother always said, “Treat others the way you want to be treated. Be kind and considerate, be a listener, and be polite, and respectful.”

During the month of October, an anticipated highly-charged political season, let’s be especially courteous with our friends, neighbors, and acquaintances. And remember, a smile and a SkidaWave can go a long way.
