Post Hurricane Helene Update – (September 28, 2024)

Public Works, BrightView, and R&D crews continued to work in The Landings today removing debris and downed trees from common property. All main roads have been cleared. However, many side roads and some common property areas still are being addressed. Crews will continue working tomorrow (September 29).

Some residents have reached out to The Landings Association regarding assistance with trees on private property. Residents are responsible for removing downed trees and debris from private property. Landings Public Works will only remove trees from common property.

Remember, if you have damaged trees due to Hurricane Helene, you do not need TLA approval to have them removed. Vendors will be allowed in on Sundays to assist with cleanup and restoration efforts until further notice. Please make sure to do your due diligence when choosing a tree company and be sure to pre-authorize your vendor's entry. 

Additionally, some residents have contacted The Landings Association with concerns about who is responsible for fallen trees on private property. If a tree falls on a person’s property, that tree becomes the responsibility of the affected homeowner up to their property line. A good rule of thumb to remember is you are responsible for whatever part of the tree is on your lot, no matter where the tree came from. (See illustration below.)

In other words, if the trunk of the tree is on your property and the top of the tree is on your neighbor’s property, they are responsible for the top and you are responsible for the bottom. Likewise, if there is a dangerous tree or limb hanging or leaning over your property, please contact your neighbor directly.  Remember, if you don’t know your neighbor you can try to look up their contact information in the reverse directory of your 2024 Landings Residential Directory.

Finally, tens of thousands of Georgia Power customers in Chatham County and other areas in Georgia still are without power. Georgia Power is working to restore power as quickly as possible to all affected areas. There is no available estimated restoration for locations without power in The Landings at this time.
