Public Works...Working for You!
Tropical Storm Debby Preparations and Recovery Efforts
At the beginning of the week, The Public Works Department, in conjunction with BrightView, prepared for Tropical Storm Debby’s potential impact on the community. Preparations included cleaning and clearing debris from storm drains, opening lagoon valves, sweeping the streets, collecting downfall on center islands, rights-of-way and courtyards, performing checks on facility generators, small and heavy machinery, ensuring all equipment and vehicles were ready for storm cleanup and topping off the fuel tanks and ensuring they were fully anchored.
After Tropical Storm Debby came through, Public Works crews removed three trees on the island that were blocking roadways, while addressing issues of backed up stormwater inlets to help prevent flooding. All lagoon valves around the island remain open, and the lagoons are draining into the marsh. It is important to note that despite these efforts, there still was flooding in some areas in The Landings due to high tides and the amount of rainfall the island received this week.
Crews will continue to work throughout the community to remove downfall. Additionally, BrightView will be onsite Saturday to continue the downfall collection efforts.
