Tropical Storm Debby Update (August 6 @ 6 p.m.)
Our area continues to be impacted by Tropical Storm Debby. The storm is moving east-northeast at three MPH. Most areas in Chatham County saw a period of calm this afternoon, as the rains ceased for a few hours. However, the rain has returned in many locations and is expected to continue throughout this evening (August 6) into tomorrow (August 7). The Chatham County curfew has been suspended.
At its 5:30 p.m. briefing, Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) reported that some areas could see approximately two-to-three additional inches of rain over the next day or so, as Tropical Storm Debby makes her way out of our area. The Tropical Storm Warning, Flash Flood Warning, and Flood Watch all remain in effect.
TLA Update
Landings Public Works, the Marinas, and Security spent a large portion of the day evaluating all areas of the island, including monitoring lagoon levels, removing downed trees, accessing damage, and cleaning up debris. Utilities, Inc. of Georgia is working this evening (August 6) removing some debris from the ditches in the Spray fields that had fallen in that location, possibly slowing drainage in the Deer Creek area.
Overall, The Landings has fared well thus far. There was minimal damage sustained at Landings Harbor Marina to the electrical lines that feed wet slip docks W1 - W9. This dock is next to the fish cleaning shack and will require repairs.
TLA’s Administration Building (600 Landings Way) will reopen tomorrow (August 7) at 8 a.m. Landings Harbor Marina and Delegal Creek Marina also will resume normal business hours tomorrow. Operation hours at Landings Harbor Marina are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Delegal Creek Marina is open Monday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
