STRATEGIC PLANNING – STATEMENT OF WORK
Introduction
The Board of Directors of The Landings Association, Inc. updates its Strategic Plan every three years. The last update was adopted by the Board on December 21, 2021, and has served to guide the fundamental decisions and action that have shaped and steered what the organization is, what it does, and why it does it, with a focus on the future. The Board is now seeking assistance from within the community by an individual with relevant experience, to serve as a consultant in the development of our 2025-2027 Strategic Plan.
The Board regards its Strategic Plan as a living document and reviews components of it at its monthly Board Workshop to confirm that it being used to guide decision making. It is updated every three years to ensure that TLA is adapting to changing demographics, environmental and economic challenges, and pressures from external competition.
Background
The Landings Association (TLA) is a not-for-profit corporation, formed in 1972, to promote the health, safety, and welfare of the residents of The Landings on Skidaway Island. It is an Audubon certified sustainable community.
Its Mission is to maintain common property, provide services, and administer covenants in a publicly responsible and efficient manner.
Its Vision is to be the most vibrant private residential community in the Southeast and to be stewards of the naturally beautiful coastal environment in which we live, work, play, and actively pursue economic, environmental and social sustainability. We aim to create and foster an active lifestyle, along with experiences and services that enhance our sense of community, security and quality of life.
Project Scope
We seek an individual as our consultant to lead our Strategic Planning effort. The Strategic Planning Committee is composed of the nine members of the Board of Directors, supported by the General Manager and staff as appropriate (Finance, Public Works, Security, Marinas, Community Development, Communications, and Human Resources). Some, but not necessarily all, of the following elements should be employed during the planning process:
- Carry out an Environment Scan or SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunity, Threats) analysis to assess internal and external challenges and opportunities.
- Review the recent survey of members and facilitate member focus groups to discuss and catalogue most pressing issues and concerns.
- Organize and facilitate the annual Strategic Planning retreat with the Board of Directors.
- Guide the development of measurable goals and outcomes with achievable timelines, including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the Board.
- Produce for review and approval by the Board of Directors the 2025-2027 TLA Strategic Plan.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Facilitation of Planning Sessions: Lead and facilitate strategic planning sessions with the Board of Directors, ensuring all voices are heard and considered.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Work with the Board to identify and engage key stakeholders, such as focus groups, within the community to gather input and feedback.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Assist in gathering relevant data, including surveys, and analyzing it to inform the strategic planning process.
- Drafting the Strategic Plan: Collaborate with the Board to draft a comprehensive strategic plan, including mission, vision, goals, and actionable steps.
- Progress Monitoring: Help establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for our Board to track the implementation and success of the strategic plan.

Timeline
The aim of the Board is to begin this work in early September 2024 and have a finished document ready for review and approval by its December 17, 2024, meeting.
