First Responders Update
As I was leaving the island the other day, I saw a woman in her early 30s driving a golf cart up Bartram Road. She was holding a baby in her arms, while simultaneously driving and talking on her cell phone. I was aghast. Although there has been a lot of talk as of late about golf cart safety, I think some people haven’t seen the memo. A golf cart is a vehicle. Full stop.
On those same lines, please be mindful of pedestrians and bicyclists when you’re in a golf cart/car. Passing people on the road at an unsafe speed not only is extremely dangerous, but it could also kill someone. It takes seconds to make a poor decision while operating a vehicle, and less than that for someone to lose their life because of it.
I am constantly asked what the status is with our group. If I had a dollar for every time I’m asked this question, I could buy the entire island a cocktail. WE still are working hard trying to get back to work full time. I will forever be an optimist and because of that, I still am hopeful we will find a resolution.
The silver lining in this awful situation is that Chairman Chester Ellis is ON OUR side, and he is doing EVERYTHING he can to get the Skidaway Island First Responders back in action full time. I have learned a lot about people and politics since February of 2022, and I can assure you, I have not given up and the entire First Responder team is READY to serve this community, like we have for the past 43 years.
As redundant as this is, please know I will communicate with the island as soon as I have an update on a final decision for the Skidaway Island First Responders’ future.
Thank you for your continued support.
