Burglaries & Thefts
On Wednesday, May 22, Security was informed by Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) about a burglary at a residence located near Cotton Crossing. No signs of forced entry were discovered, and CCPD is investigating.
On Saturday, May 25, a resident contacted Security to report a theft of a firearm. The firearm is believed to have been stolen from a vehicle between the evening of May 17 and the morning of May 22 from. The resident advised that his vehicle is unlocked during the day, but he locks it every evening. He did not notice anything else missing from the vehicle, and there were no signs of forced entry. The resident stated he would contact CCPD to file a report. At the time of this report, CCPD had not issued a case number related to this theft. It is unknown exactly when the firearm was stolen or by whom.
Security and CCPD responded to a residence in the Oakridge area for a report of theft from a vehicle on the morning of Wednesday, May 29. The resident advised that he noticed both driver’s side windows were broken when he went out to his vehicle at approximately 4:45 a.m. He stated that the family dog began barking unusually around 2 a.m., but he dismissed it. Among the stolen items were several credit and debit cards and a company laptop. The suspect is unknown at this time. CCPD is investigating.
On Wednesday, May 29, a resident in the Oakridge area reported his vehicle appeared to have been unlawfully entered during the early morning hours. Upon leaving for work, he found a flashlight underneath the vehicle. When he entered his vehicle, he found his wallet was missing. At the time of the report, the resident had not made contact with CCPD.
On Wednesday, May 29, a resident in the Oakridge area notified Security that his unlocked vehicle appeared to have been entered unlawfully during the previous evening or early morning hours. The resident advised he noticed his glovebox was open and his wallet was missing from the vehicle. The man’s wife informed Security that their Ring doorbell showed the interior light of the vehicle coming on at approximately 12:45 a.m. However, no lights were seen approaching or departing the area at the time of the incident. She also advised that her husband had filed a report with CCPD, who are investigating the incident.
Security received a call from a resident in the Oakridge area on Wednesday, May 29, who advised that his vehicle appeared to have been unlawfully entered in the early morning hours. His house keys were missing from the vehicle, and he believed someone unlawfully entered his home as well. CCPD is investigating.
On Wednesday, May 29, a resident in the Oakridge area contacted Security to report their unlocked vehicle was unlawfully entered in the early morning hours. The only thing that appeared to be missing was the vehicle’s keys, which were inside the vehicle at the time of the incident. The resident was advised to also notify CCPDl.
On Wednesday, May 29, Security spoke with a resident in the Oakridge area who stated her vehicle appeared to have been entered unlawfully in the early morning hours. Upon entering the vehicle, she noticed the center console and glovebox were rummaged through, and the vehicle’s keys, which were inside the vehicle at the time of the incident, were left behind on the floor mat. The only thing that appeared to be missing was some cash that had been left in the vehicle. CCPD is investigating the incident.
Bicycle Accident
On Sunday, May 26, a Security Officer witnessed a cyclist crash into the back of a patrol vehicle when he arrived on location for a medical emergency on Bartram Road. There were four emergency vehicles parked in the southbound lane with emergency lights illuminated. The cyclist explained that he had his head down and did not realize there were so many vehicles on the side of the roadway. The cyclist was treated on scene for his injuries and transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
Suspicious Incident
On Tuesday, May 28, Security responded to a residence on Willeford Drive regarding a vehicle that appeared to have been entered unlawfully. The resident advised that she and her husband noticed the driver’s side door of her vehicle was ajar as they were leaving the residence on Sunday morning. A search of the vehicle was conducted, but nothing was found out of order or stolen. The resident advised that the vehicle was unlocked at the time, but the alarm system was on. Neighbors reported hearing the alarm around 7 a.m. on Sunday morning. The incident was not reported to CCPD.
Suspicious Person
Security responded to the area of Delegal Road and Mainsail Crossing for a report of a suspicious person on Tuesday, May 28. The complainant advised that a young female knocked on her door and stated she was there to pet sit a cat. The complainant stated that the name the young woman provided was not associated with anyone in her household nor did she have a cat. Security patrolled the surrounding areas with negative findings.
The Guardian Pro camera/LIDAR system remained at Landings Way North & Woodbrook Court. From May 22 to May 28, the system recorded 20 violations with the highest recorded speed being 47 MPH. Staff sent 17 courtesy notices to those individuals who are recorded exceeding the posted speed limit.
TLA Rules and Regulations Enforcement
- Warnings were issued to commercial vendors for no safety cones.
