General Manager's Update

Dear Landings Association Members,

Summer begins June 20, and I cannot think of a more beautiful place to enjoy this new season than The Landings. As you are out and about on the community paths, taking in a bit of nature on the trails, or enjoying the beautiful scenery at Landings Harbor Marina and Delegal Creek Marina, please remember to watch out for your neighbors and be sure to give them a big Skidaway Wave.

Work should start soon on the several-months-long project by Atlanta Gas and Light to upgrade its natural gas transmission system within The Landings. This work will impact traffic at the Main Gate. As a reminder, The Landings Association is leaving several of the recent Landings Way North/South road changes in place, so that traffic can be converted once again to two-way during this work if required. Work continues with the Association’s traffic engineers on the safest long-term traffic pattern.

Other work soon to begin is the shoring up of one of the columns as you enter Tidewater Square. As you may recall, one of these columns has been impacted by a tree and a shallow footer, so that repairs are required. The Landings Association identified this issue a couple of years ago when part of Tidewater Square had drainage improvements and brick roadway repairs. After study and meetings with multiple contractors, a vendor has been selected to conduct the necessary repairs this summer to try to save that column without requiring a full-scale replacement. More communications to come as details become available.

A natural resource in short supply, but crucial to island living, is fresh water. The Association long has had a Strategic Water Committee to focus on current and future water demand and supply, joined by The Landings Golf & Athletic Club. Starting this month, there will be an educational campaign to let our members know where our water comes from, why we need to focus on conservation, and how to do so. Please click Is our Drinking Water A Given? and Skidaway Island Consumption Trends to learn more.

After many months of development and beta testing, the Association’s Community Development Department has just launched a new architectural approval platform – CitizenServe. To access the new portal, visit our website (www.landings.org) and look for the orange, home plans icon (shown at right) located on the homepage. This new software should allow easier submissions of architectural projects requiring approval, as well as the ability to track the progress of such work. I’m sure there will be some hiccups along the way, so please be patient as we work through any kinks, and do let us know what is working and what needs to be improved.

Finally, June marks the start of Hurricane Season. Now is the time to dust off your plans and prepare for any potential storms and evacuations. As always, we have scheduled a Hurricane Town Hall Meeting to inform residents and to answer any questions. This is a great opportunity to learn, not only for our newer residents, but also as a refresher for our longer-term owners. This year’s event will be held June 18, at 7 p.m., in Palmetto’s Ballroom. Please plan to join us.

If I can be of any help, please let me know (karls@landings.org). I am always happy to hear from you and appreciate your comments and feedback, as they help us achieve our employee mission: “Leading our community to excellence through continuous improvement.”

Have a great summer, and congratulations and best wishes to all the graduating high school and college seniors as they embark on a new chapter in their lives. I wish you much success!
