First Responders Update

President, First Responders

I start this article with a reminder to everyone. Publicly discussing a medical call that you were not a witness to or have any personal relationship to, should never be casually gossiped about in our community. Not only is it in poor taste and inappropriate, but it’s also hurtful to the family members of the individuals you’re casually speculating about.

On those same lines, there is a lot of gossip and talk about the status of the Skidaway Island First Responders. If you have any questions about the current situation regarding our group, please reach out to me directly. I’d be happy to update anyone.

Currently, we are getting a handful of notifications via The Landings Association’s Security Team. Keep in mind, the calls we are getting very often are delayed due to the three-tier paging system. We are doing our best to respond when we get notified and certainly, in a timely and safe manner.

Although I still am baffled as to why we are begging to work for free to serve this community, I am cautiously optimistic we ultimately will find a solution. I’m a true believer in staying hopeful regardless of the evidence proving otherwise. This community is our number one priority. No matter where all of this ends, that mission will not ever change.

Let’s also not forget we serve ALL of Skidaway Island, and being notified by TLA Security doesn’t include both senior living facilities, South Harbor, Modena Island, any private residences outside of The Landings, the surrounding churches, Village businesses, Skidaway Island State Park, the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography, and everywhere else where an emergency can occur outside of the gates. This is what we will keep fighting for!

As it warms up and we all start to enjoy the outdoors and all the benefits the spring and summer weather brings, be mindful of hydration. It doesn’t have to be 100° to get overheated. It always is good practice to hydrate the night before and morning of your outdoor activity. If you start to have signs of dehydration, please stop what you’re doing and seek help.

I will update the community as soon as I know what the final decision is regarding the Skidaway Island First Responders. Hopefully, that answer is closer than we think. Stay safe out there.
