President's Update - December 20, 2023

By Bill Bina
President, The Landings Association

Greetings to you. This is my first message of 2024. You can expect The Landings Association (TLA) to move forward on the many opportunities and challenges that present themselves throughout the year. Some of these are addressed below, and some are not known yet!

I continue to be impressed with the competence and spirit evidenced by TLA staff. Additionally, their work is enriched by the numerous volunteer committee members lending their real-world experience, wisdom, and problem-solving abilities to plan and execute TLA initiatives. A common theme among our committees, staff, and Board is the enhancement of our residential community’s environment, security, and privacy in a fiscally responsible way.

The Board will meet for a two-day retreat in late January to discuss and plan for the coming year’s initiatives. Among these initiatives will be the items listed below.

  • Preparing for the next three-year Strategic Plan
  • Improvement opportunities flowing from the recent Community Survey
  • Continuing relationship building with our key partners: The Landings Golf & Athletic Club and The Landings Company

In addition to the above-mentioned initiatives will be the following items.

  • Work will begin on road repair and resurfacing during 2024. This effort will cost $1.6 million of the annual Assessment and is focused on roads with high traffic loads and those with significant deterioration.
  • Begin Phase Two of the Landings Harbor Dry Stack Replacement Project that will continue to increase boat and storage capacities.
  • A focus on common courtesy, responsibility, and safety on community amenities, paths, and roads.

I welcome our new Board Directors Brian Dunphy, Marian Mackle, and Jason Somers. Additionally, I am grateful for those Directors transitioning off the Board -- Andrea Felkins, Carol McCarthy, and Bob Wood. I am especially thankful for the many contributions of our Past President, Herman Stone, who continues as Vice President for this coming year.

Finally, thank you to all the residents of The Landings who volunteer time, share ideas, and welcome guests to our island.
