CCA Skidaway’s Fly Tying Workshop
Tying flies is a skill that requires effort and practice to create something beautiful and practical. On November 5, Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) Skidaway Chapter held its first-ever fly tying workshop. Seven CCA members gathered in The Landings Association's Conference Room to do exactly that with Kyler Gartner of Rivers and Glen, Savannah.
Kyler covered all the basics of this art beginning with equipment, materials, and how to imitate live food. His love of tying flies and fishing truly showed in his skills, while teaching members the intricate steps in creating flies.
During the two hour workshop, CCA members created two flies, one for fresh water (a Clouser Minnow) and one for saltwater (a Drum Beater). Now it is time for these members to catch a fish on the flies they created...a noticeable and true reward because of the work they put into landing that fish.
Stay tuned for more workshops in the coming year!
