Cast Away Club September 23 Event: It's Turtle Time

Courtesy CCA Cast Away Club

The next Cast Away Club event is September 23 at the CCA Outdoor Education Center located at the Kids' Fishing Lagoon adjacent to Log Landing Road and the Oakridge Fire Station. Registration and name tag pickup is at 8:45am.

Skidaway Island Audubon Diamondback Terrapin Turtle Rescue program has a huge following on the island. The rescue program is led by an enthusiastic group of Audubon Volunteers who monitor the nesting, relocation eggs and release of the baby turtles. We will have live baby turtles for everyone to touch and hold. You also will learn how the mama turtles dig their nests, lay their eggs, and finally cover up the nest to protect their eggs. That is when the rescue program begins.

The nature program is from 9 to about 9:30 a.m.. After the session, kids and their parents will have the opportunity to fish together from 9:30 to 11a.m. Rods, reels, and bait, will be provided by Coastal Conservation Association Skidaway Chapter Volunteers (CCA), who will be available to help. Cast Away Club events are free. Donations of $10 for a kids-logoed Cast Away Club hat are always welcome.

Attendance is limited, so please register as soon as possible at ccaskidaway.org
