Happy Labor Day Weekend
We will be running on our extended summer hours schedule throughout Labor Day, Monday, September 4. We are open this Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.., and Monday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Tuesday our hours will revert to our standard operating hours, which are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. We are expecting this to be a busy three-day holiday weekend. We ask that you use the BoatCloud App to request your boat moves in general, but most importantly during holiday weekends. Those who make BoatCloud requests in advance will have priority as opposed to those who walk up with a boat move request. We do ask for your patience as we go through the final weekend of summer hours with our core staff only.
Hurricane Idalia
On Monday and Tuesday, the Marinas team began hurricane preparations to weather Hurricane Idalia. Our team removed all the drain plugs from the boats and placed them inside the boats. Staff relocated some top-level boats to wash racks that are exposed to high winds. We detached the dock access ramps, took the awning off over the fuel dock area, secured all fuel pumps, dock box lids, dock carts, trash cans and porch furniture. The Sailing Club members secured the sailboats on the ground level racks. Many boaters came and removed anything that could blow out of their boats, others came and tied their boats down or removed their boats away on trailers. Larry Sincoskie and Fernando Marquez came down on Wednesday to take a final walk through and make any final preparations. On Wednesday afternoon wind gusts reached 63 mph at Landings Harbor and 66 mph at Delegal Creek according to our weather station data. Two J24 sailboats were blown over and a section of roof lifted off one of our older dry rack buildings. The Marina Staff have performed a walk-through of the Marina, assessed any damage, and have contacted the owners whose boats were affected. Overall, we feel very fortunate that Hurricane Idalia did not do any more damage than it did. The Staff will continue to clean up debris from the property over the next few days.
Mike Bousquet’s Retirement Party – Tuesday, September 12
Mike Bousquet’s Retirement Party is Tuesday, September 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Landings Harbor Marina. We are hosting a potluck and invite everyone to join in on the fun. Carey Hilliard’s will be bringing their famous chicken fingers and The Landings Sailing Club will be providing the cake. If able, please bring a favorite dish of yours to share with others. Our goal is to let Mike know what an impact he has made on our Landings Marina family over the years. Come prepared to share your best “Mike, Mike, Mike” story and well wishes for our honoree! Please RSVP to Jennifer Sabo (jennifers@landings.org or 912-598-5503).
Landings Harbor Store
Another summer season is coming to an end. We will have selected items on sale for an End of Summer Sale beginning this weekend.
The Landings Sailing Club
The Low Country Hook Ocean Race, organized by the Chatham Sailing Club and The South Carolina Yacht Club took place on Saturday, August 26. Our Bonnie Blue came in second place and Scarlett came in third. Great job!
Landings Harbor Storage
Dry, wet, and jet ski storage are all full. We will continue to maintain all wait lists. We are beginning to prepare for Phase 2 of the Dry Rack Storage Project that will commence at the end of this year, beginning of next. To do so, we need to plan on where to place the boats that are currently in the rack that will be temporarily displaced.
Landings Dry Storage Activity
Delegal Creek Marina
Summer Operating Hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Daily
Operating hours as of Tuesday, September 5 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Daily
Monday and Tuesday the Marina staff secured and prepped Delegal Creek Marina to weather the threat of Hurricane Idalia. We are happy to report that all boats and docks had no damage. We did lose one panel of window screen on the Captains Lounge porch. Everyone with boats here did a great job of securing them and helping fellow boaters secure their vessels. The hoses on the docks were all stored in dock boxes, but maybe not yours if it had a lock. Some hoses were stored in dock boxes without locks, please let us know if you are missing a hose and we can help locate it for you. Thank you for your patience in getting everything back to normal. All operations were resumed on Thursday morning after a quick cleanup.
