Tropical Storm Idalia Update - August 28 @ 6:15 p.m.
At its 5:30 p.m. Briefing, Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) shared that Tropical Storm Idalia currently is located 671 miles southwest of Chatham County.Â
The storm is forecast to become a hurricane late this evening and quickly accelerate to a major hurricane by Tuesday (August 29). Impacts to the Savannah area are expected around 3 p.m. on Wednesday (August 30). Our area should expect heavy rains, up to six inches in some areas, and high winds. There is the potential for localized flooding, power outages, and isolated tornados.Â
CEMA remains in Opcon 4, the enhanced monitoring phase, and will continue tracking Tropical Storm Idalia around the clock. Now is the time to make sure your emergency plans are in place.
