A Game of Horseshoes and Crabs
Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) Skidaway Chapter’s first Cast Away Club event of the summer was a huge success. The program featured Dodie Sanders a marine educator and boat captain for UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant.
Sanders presented Horseshoe Crabs 101, which gave a history and the biology of these sea creatures and provided hands on activities including showcasing live horseshoe crabs for participants. There were 21 kids and 13 adults in attendance.
CCA’s Cast Away Club offers a monthly program during the summer that features a short nature presentation followed by fishing in the Kids’ Fishing Lagoon for all attendees. Fishing rods, tackle, and bait are provided.
Below is a list of upcoming events.
- Saturday, July 22 - A Walk in the Park / Skidaway Island State Park
- Saturday, August 26 - All Things You Might Sea / UGA Marine Extension
- Saturday, September 23 - It’s Turtle Time / Skidaway Audubon
These free programs are from 9-11 a.m. and are held at the CCA Education Pavilion and Kids Fishing Lagoon (located next to the Oakridge Fire Station at Westcross and Log Landing roads).
Watch for CCA emails inviting you to register early each month.
