First Responders Update

President, First Responders

Congratulations to Anne Lyon for receiving the Skidaway Island First Responder of the Year Award for 2022. Anne has been a Skidaway Island First Responder for 20 years. A short article can’t adequately express her contribution to our group and this island. Suffice it to say, she has volunteered more hours of her time looking out for all of us than I can calculate. Thank you, Anne, for your years of service and setting the bar so high for the rest of us.

I also thank Robin Rackoff for her dedication and commitment to the Skidaway Island First Responders. Robin made it her mission years ago to raise money within the Mah Jongg community for our organization. Even in 2020, in the middle of the pandemic when the tournament wasn’t held, she continued to raise money on our behalf.

Over the years, she has collected money through the Mah Jongg tournament on the island and when individuals buy their new Mah Jongg card. This year, she handed us a check for $15,000. We are truly humbled by everyone who donated in our honor and those that were benefactors, sponsors, and supporters of this year’s tournament. Thank you to everyone who was a part of this extraordinary gift. My team is overwhelmed by your generosity.

We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, and without the support of this amazing community and all the special people and businesses on our island who continue to support us, we could not do what we do. We are such a lucky group not only because we get to do what we love by helping others, but we also continue to be showered with love, encouragement, and positivity.

The Skidaway Island First Responders wish everyone a healthy and happy holiday season. Let’s continue to look out for one another and never forget that we live in the most magical place. Stay safe out there, and in an emergency, please don’t hesitate to call the Skidaway Island First Responders (912-355-6688).
