CCA Oyster Roast and Pig Pickin’ Event: December 11

By Doug Painter

Hosted by the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) Skidaway Chapter since 2013, our Oyster Roast and Pig Pickin’ has become a much-anticipated annual event for island residents and guests. This year’s event is on December 11 from 2 to 4 p.m.

“This is a true down-home, lip-smacking cookout featuring a selection of steamed oysters, mouthwatering steamed clams, and crab legs.” notes longtime CCA member and former CCA GA Board President Tom Rood.

There will be mounds of pulled pork for BBQ fans, and everyone will get a “stab” at pickin’ a beautifully roasted whole hog. Beer, wine, and soft drinks are included in your admission.

In addition to the great food, the event will include the giveaway of numerous door prizes and the announcement of the winner of the CCA GA statewide raffle. Again, you can register and purchase tickets this year at our website ( If you are a current CCA member, you will receive a $10 per couple discount and a $5 discount on individual tickets. Member prices are $125 per couple and $65 for individual tickets. Non-member prices are $135 per couple and $70 for individual tickets.

As in previous years, our Oyster Roast and Pig Pickin’ event is limited to the first 250 registrants. Last year’s event was a sellout, so we encourage you to buy tickets without delay.

All funds raised at this event support CCA Georgia’s mission to conserve aquatic habitats, serve as an advocate for the recreational angler, and promote a range of educational outreach.
