What a Busy CCA Summer!

In between rain showers, Coastal Conservation (CCA) Skidaway continues to provide lots of fun activities for our island residents and families, as well as some deserving off-island visitors! Since the Kids' Fishing Derby in May, we’ve hosted kids' fishing events, complete with mentors, for children from Bethesda Academy’s Horizon Camp, Salvation Army’s Summer Camp, and Safe Shelter’s Camp Rock (see collage at right). We’ve also held three CastAway Club events with terrific experts presenting critters and fascinating tales at programs on Birds and Butterflies in June, and Owls in July. At August event on Reptiles, kids learned about lots of critters, including live turtles, real alligator jaws (not live!), and some even got to see what it’s like to wear a giant turtle shell.

Looking to beat the afternoon showers, our popular fly fishing clinics Bluegills and Blues moved to the morning, but on September 14 returned to the regular 5 p.m. time. Paulette Hamilton organizes these events and makes it all happen – she even provided homemade muffins for participants.

Want to help support CCA Georgia and the Skidaway Chapter? How about buying a raffle ticket for a great golf cart? Only 200 tickets will be sold and some lucky winner will be able to use this beautiful cart at one of our 151 lagoons for what some like to call Fishing a la Cart

Visit CCA's website (ccaskidaway.org) and on the home page you will find links to the golf cart raffle, along with a new 2022 CCA GEORGIA BLUES, BREWS, BBQ, AND BOURBON festival, which will take place on October 22 at the new Park at Eastern Wharf (101 Port Street, Savannah, GA 31401). Check it out!
