For the Birds and Butterflies are Free is the next Cast Away Club event to be held Saturday, June 25, CCA Outdoor Education Center at the Kids’ Fishing Lagoon located behind the firehouse near the intersection of Westcross and Log Landing roads in Oakridge. This event will be an interactive program of learning stations.

Sarah Lucas and Brenda Ecken, our local bird and nature enthusiasts, will look at the nesting seasons of Bluebirds, Chickadees, and Nuthatches, their nests, broods, what they eat, and common predators.

Did you know that Skidaway Island is on the migration path for Monarch Butterflies?  Meg Kettlitz, a member of Skidaway Audubon's Nature Notices Committee and Master Gardener, will explain the life cycle of the Monarchs and the newly created Monarch Butterfly Trail. The trail features plants that help to attract the Monarchs as they migrate in the fall.

Event registration starts at 8:45 a.m., and the program is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. After the session, kids and their parents will have the opportunity to fish together with rods, reels, and bait, provided by Coastal Conservation Association (CCA).  Volunteers from CCA also will be available to help.

Cast Away Club events always are free. Donations for kids' Cast Away Hats are helpful and appreciated.

Attendance is limited. Please register as soon as possible at ccaskidaway.org. For more information, email Susie Fusco (sjbfusco@aol.com).
