Green for Greens to raise funds for youth programming and scholarships

First Tee Savannah, part of a national, nonprofit organization that seamlessly integrates the game of golf with a life skills curriculum, is partnering with Front Door Produce this summer to raise funds for its youth programs and scholarships.

The fundraiser, Green for Greens, offers local residents the opportunity to purchase a box of seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables from farms in Southern Georgia, picked two days before delivery. Each box costs $30, and First Tee receives a portion of the proceeds to support its year-round youth development programs and camps.

Each year, First Tee reaches 3.7 million youth nationwide. The First Tee Savannah Chapter was established a year ago and has brought the program to hundreds of kids who might not otherwise have exposure to golf and the life lessons that are learned through the game. This spring, 38 percent of the program participants received scholarships, which are available for any child in need.

“At First Tee, we see golf as a metaphor for life. It’s not the score that counts, but what you learn along the way,” said First Tee Savannah Executive Director Ben Robbins. "Like in life, golf requires goal setting, working with others, and digging deep when things get tough. Golf is a perfect practice ground for learning skills that go far beyond the fairways."

Green for Greens Front Door Produce Boxes can be purchased online now through July 25. To purchase a produce box, visit  Please join us in Building Game Changers!

Box pickup will be held from 12 to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 29 at the Skidaway Island Baptist Church, 2 W. Ridge Road, Savannah, GA 31411
