Sustainable Skidaway Task Force Seeks Volunteers

By Dylan Till
Environmental Manager

The Landings is an Audubon International Certified Sustainable Community; the first such community in all of Georgia! The community received this designation in 2018 through a cooperative effort between The Landings Association and The Landings Club and volunteers, guided by Audubon International. Certification required accomplishments in all three aspects of sustainability, including social, economic, and environmental. While some accomplishments were the work of the task force, many came from our governing organizations, nonprofits, clubs, groups, and teams whose ongoing work in social, economic, and environmental areas deserved recognition.

To keep our Sustainable Community status, recertification is required every three years. The Landings was recertified as a Sustainable Community in 2021. The Sustainable Skidaway Task Force is now open for volunteers to prepare for the next recertification in Spring 2024. Working on the Sustainable Skidaway Task Force is a great way to learn more about the community’s environmental stewardship and spirit of volunteerism. Opportunities for spearheading one of the Focus Areas (listed below), coming up with new project ideas, and tracking ongoing long-term projects are available.

Sustainability Focus Areas:

  • Agriculture
  • Economic Development, and Tourism
  • Education
  • Environmental Issues
  • Governance
  • Public Health
  • Housing
  • Open Space and Land Use
  • Planning, Zoning, Building, and Development
  • Population
  • Public Safety and Emergency Management
  • Recreation
  • Resource Use
  • Volunteerism and Civic Engagement
  • Transportation

If you want to know more about any specific focus area, view the long-term plan here. It is a living document of goals and objectives, with room for new insights as we move toward 2024.
