Anniversary Golden Nugget of the Week: 1976 Driving Directions to The Landings

By Richard Burke
50th Anniversary History Subcommittee

Question: In 1976, if friends asked how to get from downtown Savannah to The Landings, what directions would you give them?

Correct Answer: Take Abercorn Street south (there was no Truman Parkway), turn left on Montgomery Cross (a two-lane road at that time), then turn right on Whitefield Avenue (Waters Avenue dead-ended at Montgomery Cross back then). Continue five miles to Skidaway Island, bearing left at the Diamond Causeway fork. Follow Diamond Causeway to McWhorter Drive (where Diamond Causeway dead-ended), turn left on McWhorter Drive, and proceed one-and-one-half miles north. You will see The Landings' entry sign on your right.
