President's Update 9-29-2021

By John Holmquist
President, The Landings Association

This is my 22nd update as President, not including several other letters to the community. I now have a greater appreciation for the clergy who must come up with a new sermon every week. This update is more informational than inspirational. We are at that point in the year where we are working on completing items before the end of the year. The next three months will see the completion of a new Strategic Plan for the next three years; the election of new board members; and the hiring of a new General Manager.

The ballots for TLA’s Board of Directors’ election have been mailed. You can vote either by returning the enclosed ballot or online with the information provided in the voting packet. Three candidates will be elected for three-year terms. This is your opportunity to decide who you think will do the best job. Please vote. Last year, only 31% of the eligible residents actually voted. Again, please vote. Ballots must be returned no later than October 18, 2021 at 4 p.m.

One of the strengths of our community is the willingness of our residents to lend their expertise to the community by serving on a committee or a team. The Landings Harbor Project Team is an example. There are many different components to this project: Engineering/Technical; Wet Slips; Dry Slips; Landings Harbor Picnic Area/Grounds; Community Outreach: Amenities; and Financial. Our volunteers will be working with staff and the community to address each of these areas. This is a complex project and will be more of a marathon than a sprint in terms of time needed to fully address this project.

Our General Manager position has been posted and distributed. We anticipate having video interviews with candidates in late October. In-person interviews with the three finalists will take place before Thanksgiving, with a decision shortly thereafter.
