Cast Away Kids Club Event Set for August 21
Mark your calendars for the next Cast Away Club event on Saturday, August 21 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Kids' Fishing Lagoon locatedÂ
adjacent to Log Landing Road and the Oakridge Fire Station.
Please arrive by 8:45 to complete your registration. The subject for this event is JepBIRDy, an in-depth talk about the bluebirds and the Dave Scott Bluebird Trail, which has more than 196 bluebird houses on our island. Â
This interactive seminar presented by Sarah Lucas and Brenda Ecken will take you through the life of a bluebird from nesting to fledging. The presentation will be formatted like the game show, Jeopardy, with answers and questions from the kids. It is a great opportunity for kids to learn more about the birds and the role they play in nature. As always, after the session, youngsters and their parents will have the opportunity to fish together with rods and bait provided by the Skidaway Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA). CCA volunteers will be on hand to help.
Attendees will receive a birdhouse kit to take home. Attendance is limited, so please register as soon as possible at ccaskidaway.org.
See you there!

A quick recap of the last event: The Cast Away Club held the Reptilian Round Up on Saturday, July 17th at the KIDS’ FISHING LAGOON. Our guest speakers, three interns from UGA Center and Aquarium held the kids and parents captive. Issac, Madison and Melissa shared information on the difference between vertebrates vs. invertebrates. They brought live animals including a variety of turtles, a snake, and a baby alligator. The interns took each vertebrate around for the kids to touch - their reaction to these critters varied from awesome to squeals. After the presentation everybody grabbed a fishing pole and bait provided by CCA and scrambled for a spot at the lagoon to fish for an hour.Â
