Into the Weeds on Weed Killers

Undesirable growth along nature trails, cart paths, and landscaped areas can be very difficult to control without Non-Selective Herbicides. Yes, you can manually remove/cut down unwanted growth, but unfortunately, it will grow back quickly, causing the area you are maintaining to look unkempt, more often than not.

Non-Selective Herbicides like Roundup are commonly used by golf courses, landscape companies, and homeowners to control unwanted growth in landscapes. There has been growing concern regarding the use of Roundup and its main active ingredient, Glyphosate, over the last few years. Due to the growing concern, we have moved away from using standard Roundup QuikPRO, which contains 73.3% Glyphosate, and started using other products such as Prosecutor Pro and Cheetah Pro. Below are some notes regarding these products. 

Prosecutor Pro (Active Ingredient, Glyphosate 41%)

• Prosecutor Pro contains 32.3% less Glyphosate than standard Roundup QuikPRO. 
• This product is safe to use as long as it is applied properly per the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). 
• It is safe for people and pets to walk through and use areas treated with Prosecutor Pro once the product has dried. Depending on outside temperatures, sunlight exposure, humidity, and other environmental conditions, it takes anywhere from five to 30 minutes for this product to completely dry on the treated area.
• This product is “rainfast” four hours after application.
• Prosecutor Pro is registered and approved for use by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD).

Cheetah Pro (Active Ingredient, Glufosinate Ammonium 24.5%)

• Cheetah Pro does not contain any Glyphosate, which is why its popularity has grown over the past years. 
• Cheetah Pro is also a non-selective Herbicide and is an excellent alternative to any Glyphosate products. 
• This product is safe to use as long as it is applied properly per the MSDS sheet. 
• Like Prosecutor Pro, it is safe for people and pets to walk through and use areas treated with Prosecutor Pro once the product has dried. Depending on outside temperatures, sunlight exposure, humidity, and other environmental conditions, it takes anywhere from five to 30 minutes for this product to dry thoroughly on the treated area.
• This product is “rainfast” four hours after application. 
• Prosecutor Pro is registered and approved for use by the EPA and Georgia EPD. 

Most herbicides are safe to use as long as the applicator follows the guidelines set forth on the MSDS sheet. Every year new products are developed, and we are constantly evaluating those new products to see which ones are best to use in our area. The safety of our appliers, residents, and the environment are our top priorities when choosing products.
