Security Update

Who You Should Call?

Moving to a new area comes with many learning curves, including who to call for various concerns. Whether you have lived in The Landings for 20 years or two months, it can be tricky to remember who to contact when you need them. Calling the proper authority is paramount to quickly getting the right people to the scene who are trained and equipped for the issue. Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) handles criminal and law enforcement matters. Chatham Emergency Services (CES) handles on-island medical and fire emergencies.

  • Criminal or law enforcement matters: Call 911 first, and then call Security (912-598-1982, option 3)
  • On-island medical or fire emergencies: Call 912-355-6688 first, and then call Security (912-598-1982, option 3)
  • Domestic animal issues should be reported to Chatham County Animal Services (912-652-6575) and Security (912-598-1982, option 2)
  • Wildlife issues are a bit more complicated. Security or Public Works personnel can assist with navigating the correct agency or referral for a private trapper.
  • For concerns that do not require police, fire, or emergency medical personnel, contact our Security Officers (912-598-1982, option 2, or option 3 if it is urgent). Security is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

We strongly encourage residents to call Security AFTER calling 911 or 355-6688 for any police, fire, or EMS incidents. Please advise the Security Officer if you already have contacted CCPD or CES.

Violation Fines

By now, everyone should be aware of the new fine structure (included below), which has been effective since January 1. Although the fine structure has changed, it does not mean that everyone started the year with a clean slate. If you receive a citation with a fine, please note that there are instructions for appealing it on the back of the form. Additionally, Security staff will send an emailed version of the citation to any email address on file with us. Fines that remain unpaid will be added to your Association account, and you will receive a statement for those fines.

Golf Cart and Traffic Safety

As part of our ongoing commitment to golf cart and traffic safety, please expect to see Security personnel continue our efforts to increase compliance regarding unregistered golf carts, unlicensed drivers, and the unsafe practice of running stop signs on cart paths and streets. Please be respectful of their role in responding to residents’ concerns and our mutual desire to increase safety. As the weather warms up and golf cart traffic increases, you also may notice courtesy stations set up adjacent to high-traffic areas with Security Officers checking Driver’s Licenses and registration decals as well as offering free safety inspections for carts. Additionally, you will see them enforcing speed limits and driving infractions for vehicles on streets throughout the community.

The speed limit in The Landings is 30 MPH unless posted otherwise, and is monitored by speed detection devices such as radar and LIDAR. Although the roadways in The Landings are private, Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) has the authority to enforce the uniform Rules of the Road on our roads pursuant to OCGA §40-6-3. While it may seem like common sense, please pull over if an emergency vehicle is behind you or approaching you with emergency lights and/or sirens. In our community, you may see TLA Security (white emergency lights), CCPD (blue lights), Chatham Emergency Services & Fire Department volunteers (red lights), and Skidaway Island First Responders (white or green lights).

COVID-19 Update

I cringe each time we discuss the exhausting, never-ending topic of COVID-19. As more vaccines become available and more residents choose to be vaccinated, we must not become complacent. Please continue to practice the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations to slow the spread of COVID-19. Wear your masks, avoid crowds and poorly ventilated spaces, and avoid close contact with people who are sick and/or do not live in your household.
